Interest in/Goals for this course:
Although I teach in the humanities and fine arts, I have a previous life in math and science (MA in Organic Chemistry from RPI). As a result, I try to introduce a math and science perspective to the study of ancient art. My Ancient Art course at Hollins currently satisfies our applied quantitative reasoning requirement through an assignment that studies the metrology of the Doric temple. Phyllis Mellinger, my colleague in Math at Hollins, and I are interested in developing assignments, projects, and even courses in other areas where math and art intersect, especially Ancient Art!
